Court has sentenced a 32-year-old man to life and 10 years imprisonment for murdering his ex-girlfriend and attempting to kill her boyfriend in the Eastern Cape.
Peddie Regional Court handed down Masonwabe Njarha’s sentencing.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the deceased, Hombakazi Gaga, called off the relationship with Njarha in September 2017.
After the breakup, she got into a new relationship.
Njarha then began to threaten her and told her he would kill her.
Troubled Gaga had to report the matter to the police.
He sent the last threatening message in January 2018 shortly before he barged into the deceased’s home and shot her in the head and chest.
He also shot her boyfriend in the leg.
NPA spokesperson Anelisa Ngcakani:
“The State submitted that these crimes were not only gruesome but also heinous and that there was no reasonable circumstances for the court to deviate from the minimum prescribed sentence of life imprisonment.”
