City of Joburg Mayor Geoff Makhubo said he would respond to the issues raised by the Cooperative Governance MEC Lebogang Maile.
On Tuesday, he disclosed that he will work on the issues within the next seven days.
On Monday, Maile wrote a formal letter to the mayor concerning the allegations levelled against the way he is running the city.
In the letter, Maile asked several questions including the reason why the budget has not been passed, why the city refused to include provision for Covid-19 deviations in the budget, the irregular appointment of senior managers, and Covid-19 procurement-related corruption.
Makhubo connected MEC’s Maile enquiries to an attempt by the Democratic Alliance (DA) to subvert democratic and legislated processes in the city.
His spokesperson Mlimendlela Ndamase said:
“This includes a deliberate attempt that has been made on a number of occasions to deliberately collapse the Council of Johannesburg and to prevent it from executing its responsibilities as required by the residents of Johannesburg.”
