Court has postponed the case against an elderly Cape Town man who was accused of the premeditated murder of his wife.

He is expected to return in the dock next week Wednesday for a formal bail application.

71-year-old William Carter made his first appearance in the Muizenberg Magistrates Court on Wednesday where he appointed a legal aid representative.

Carter was arrested after he was discharged from a Cape Town hospital earlier this week.

This was after his 66-year-old wife, Fran Carter, was found dead on the kitchen floor in the couple’s Marina da Gama home about two weeks ago.

Police found her with stab wounds in the head and back.

The accused husband was found lying outside the house with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

He was rushed to the hospital because he was in a critical condition.

At the time, the incident appeared to be a home invasion as the accused reportedly claimed he and his wife were attacked by two men who had entered their home.

But there is now a twist to his submission.
