If you find your partner constantly obsessing over themselves, being too self-centred and possessing selfish behaviour then there are chances you are dating a narcissist.

A narcissistic person is someone who has a deep sense of admiration for themselves and is completely obsessed with their own personality. They think they are always right and often find themselves having difficulties to get attached and lack empathy.

They are often tagged as dark characters, but they have a warm exterior that might fool you into believing that they are generous people.

They can be extremely selfish and lack empathy to a point wherein your feelings might feel neglected. A sense of entitlement, exploitative behaviour, self-obsession and self-admiration are some of the key personality traits of a narcissistic person.

Now that you know what a narcissistic person means, here are 5 ways to deal with this type of behaviour in a relationship:

1. Find new hobbies to occupy your mind

Dating someone who is always flexing on themselves and boasting about their own achievements can be annoying and boring. It is better to find a new hobby and pick up a new skill to occupy yourself with.

2. Be upfront and straightforward

The only way to shut up a narcissist is to be upfront about your feelings and have a straightforward attitude. It is better to be honest and speak the truth with a narcissist than beating around the bush. They would prefer an honest approach than a fake one.

3. Be rational

A narcissist can dismiss feelings and emotions. The only way to convey your feelings is to speak through facts and logical answers. A narcissist can get convinced through someone with a rational thinking and an unconventional approach.

4. Set limits and boundaries

A narcissist might get clingy or not at all. They are extremely needy when it comes to their own desires. Hence, it is important to set some boundaries and limitations in order to maintain sanity and have your own personal space.

5. Stand your ground, no matter what

There are times when it might get difficult arguing with a narcissist. This doesn’t mean you will give up and lose the fight even if it wasn’t your fault because most of the times it won’t be. A narcissist will always try to prove you wrong. Remember to be firm and authoritative.
