Several factors may cause dark circles including heredity, aging, mental or physical stress, hormonal changes, nutritional deficiencies and lack of sleep.

Too much sun exposure may trigger your body to produce more melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color, which is also a cause of dark circles.

Certain unhealthy lifestyle and skin habits can also give you dark circles under the eyes. Here are 5 such habits that need to be changed to reduce dark circles under the eyes.

1. Inadequate sleep

Getting a good night’s sleep is important for overall health, including your eyes and skin. Lack of sleep may lead to poor blood circulation and cause the appearance of dark circles.

2. Not removing eye makeup

If we don’t remove the eye makeup every day, it can start accumulating and discoloring the area under your eyes. So, make sure you remove the makeup before going to bed every day.

3. Not taking enough fluids

Lack of fluids in the body can dehydrate your skin, making it rough and patchy. Dehydration is one of the reasons for dark circles. Increase your intake of water and juice to keep dark circles away.

4. Harsh makeup removal technique

Be gentle to your skin when you remove makeup before going to the bed. The skin under the eyes is very sensitive. Cleansing your skin in an abrasive manner can cause damage to the skin and cause dark circles over time.

5. Using too much eye care products

These products can cause harm to your eyes and the area around it, causing dark circles. Always apply moisturisers before applying any eye products so that they don’t cause any effect on the area

6. Sleeping on stomach

Many of us sleep on our stomach, but it is not good for your eyes. Sleeping in this position may cause fluid retention and prohibits blood circulation to the area under your eyes.
