Do you feel like your mind freezes during exams? Do you find yourself thinking “I really can’t do this”? Does your heart race fast or do you find it hard to breathe during exams?
Aside from the very obvious struggle that we all have with exams, some people also have to deal with the additional problem of examination anxiety when the end of the semester comes around.
Here are some tips for dealing with examination anxiety and get through your papers.
1. You need to prepare for your papers
When you feel like you’re unprepared for your papers it’s that much easier to get anxious about them. It’s only natural that you would prepare for a paper, but if you get exam anxiety, it’s even more important because the more confident you are about the paper, the less likely you are to feel anxious about it.
2. Get a good night’s sleep
Whatever anxiety you feel will only be made worse by insomnia and caffeine. So, instead of stressing yourself out and pushing beyond your limits, just make sure that you get a good night’s sleep before a paper for calmer nerves.
3. Watch your diet
Anxiety is due to a chemical reaction that goes on in your body. Your diet can affect whether or not you’re anxious. Eat a balanced breakfast before you have to go write a test, and avoid drinks that will give you a sugar rush before causing you to crash.
4. Don’t pay attention to what other people are doing
One general cause of anxiety, is being worried about what other people are up to. You want to avoid that, especially in the exam room. Focus on your own paper and do your best!
