4 ways to know if your hair needs protein treatment

Your hair is largely made up of a protein called keratin and there are factors that contribute to protein loss that you may not be aware of.

Protein treatments boost the hair with a variety of nutrients and proteins to help reconstruct and strengthen hair strand

If you aren’t sure if your hair needs a protein treatment, here are the signs to look out for.

1. Your hair has lost its elasticity

If you aren’t sure if your hair has lost it’s elasticity, wet a small chunk of your hair and stretch it. If it bounces back to its curled state without breaking, you’re good. If not, it has lost its elasticity. By boosting your hair’s protein levels, you boost its elasticity, which makes your hair bouncier, full of life, and easier to style.

2. High porosity levels

Protein treatments for high porosity hair will help to fill in the gaps in the cuticles with keratin. They also create a sort of barrier around the hair strand to reduce the damage.

3. Dyed hair

When used prior to coloring, it will remove any porosity from the hair which allows the color molecules adhere better to the hair which results in less color fading. You can also use the protein treatment a week or two after you apply your color and enjoy your new color. Color-treated hair is highly porous and more susceptible to damage.

4. Excessive breakage

Shedding hair is normal; you can lose about a 100 strands per day but if you notice that the hair coming out is not from the root then it’s breakage. Regular protein can prevent this unnecessary hair loss.

Remember that after a protein treatment, you should do a deep condition treatment to restore the protein/moisture balance of your hair.
