However, overworking can have a negative effect on your mental and physical wellbeing. It’s important to manage work stress in order to avoid experiencing burnout.

Here are some ways you can avoid burnout at work.

1. Identify signs of burnout

Our bodies are designed to repair themselves. Therefore, your body will tell you when you’ve overworked yourself. You may experience constant exhaustion, detachment from work, or regular panic attacks. These are some signs of work burnout. Knowing the signs and taking them seriously can save you from burnout before it happens. The best thing you can do when you start feeling fatigued is to take a break.

2. Exercise your time management skills

Time management is key when to comes to having a healthy work-life balance. Most times, people feel overwhelmed at work since they try to juggle everything at the last minute. You can avoid rushing and putting too much pressure on yourself by prioritizing your work tasks. If you have an urgent task, finish it first then work your way down to the least urgent task. This will help you be organized at work thus putting you more at ease while working.

3. Create a happy work environment

Your environment could be draining your energy making you experience burnout. Just because you’re at work doesn’t mean that everything has to be dull. Try to make your workspace vibrant to boost your mood. Sharing a laugh with your co-workers can instantly put you in a good mood. Adding some greenery is another sure way to elevate your energy levels.

4. Make time for self-care

It’s easy to forget about yourself when you’re facing crazy deadlines and piles of work. However, self-care is necessary to help you reduce stress and anxiety. Ensure that you set aside some time to take care of yourself regularly. You can do something that feels right to you such as taking a walk, meditating, or playing music. Try to change them every now and then so you can find the one that works best for you.

5. Don’t try to please everyone

Avoid being a people pleaser at work as you may end up taking up more responsibilities than you need. You only need to please your immediate boss and supervisor if you want to make a good impression at work. Therefore, don’t focus too much of your attention on other things. This doesn’t mean that you should ignore your co-workers or other employees.

6. Increase your self-efficacy

Believing in your ability to accomplish your goals can help you have more confidence in yourself. You’ll experience less stress when faced with challenges at work thus reducing the chances of experiencing burnout. Due to our emotions and perspective of life, many people are filled with self-doubt. You can increase your self-efficacy by setting simple goals for yourself, celebrating your small wins, and look at challenges as opportunities to grow.
