Waxing is painful and costly but shaving legs can also make your skin feel icky, itchy and bumpy if not done properly.

Shaving properly not only saves your skin from cuts and bruises, but it can also save you a lot of money.

Here are a few common mistakes women make when shaving.

1. Not changing your razor often

More than anything else old razors harbour bacteria and are blunt which makes it more difficult to get a close shave. Knowing when to change the razor depends more on how neatly you use it and how often you use it.

2. Not exfoliating before

Exfoliation helps to remove the dead skin, so that it doesn’t block your razor, which not only can cause razor burn but will also prevent a close shave.

3. Shaving with soap

If you don’t use a shaving foam or gel to shave then substitute these with moisturiser or a conditioner. Soaps on the other hand tends to dry the skin. Since shaving also dehydrates the skin using soap can leave you with cuts.

4. You don’t rinse your blade properly

When you shave, your blade takes away the cream, hair and dead skin cells. If not washed properly from the blade these can give you a skin infection as well.

5. Not being smooth

Using a lot of force doesn’t actually make your shave any closer. All it does it collect even more dead skin cells in your blades and cause more harm to your skin. Ideally, razor should glide on your skin and not scrape it.

6. Dry shaving

We all have done this at least once without giving it too much thought. It is actually very harmful for the skin and leaves us badly bruised. Always make sure that you lubricate your skin before you shave.
