The teenage years are the hardest for both kids and parents. They both face challenges understanding each other’s thoughts, which can strain the relationship.
1. Show interest in their interest
You do not need to have complete knowledge about their hobby. Just show interest and participate as much as you can to support them.
2. Encourage them
Rather than criticising, encourage them to pursue their dreams. Compliment them for even the slightest of their effort.
3. Spend time with them
Create an opportunity to spend some quality time with your kid by taking them to lunch dates or picnics. Make it a habit and take out time for it.
4. Give some independence
Give your teens some freedom to manage their things on their own without your interference. Try not to meddle in their matter without permission.
5. Ask about their plan
Instead of telling them what you expect from them, ask them about their plan. What they want to become and what are they doing for it.
6. Offer advice
If your teen comes to you with some problem, offer a piece of advice rather than criticising or judging them.
7. Tell them “I love you”
Tell your kids you love them and trust them in every situation. It will help to strengthen the bond between you two.
