5 seemingly-healthy habits that could be giving you belly fat

We have all come across multiple tricks and tips that can help us lose weight faster and improve our health.

While many of us eliminate certain food groups that are notoriously known for slowing down metabolism, a lot of us drink water while sitting so that the fat does not accumulate on the belly.

The internet is abuzz with ideas and tips for health and weight loss but do we ever wait and crosscheck just how effective any of these are?

Today we bring to you five ‘seemingly healthy’ habits that are giving you belly fat.

1. Not sleeping enough because of workouts

Early morning workouts are important because they are extra beneficial. Exercising in the wee hours of the morning boosts metabolism in a much better way than an evening workout and can also give your day a great kick-start. But if you compromise on your minimum seven-hour sleep to make your morning workout a certainty, then it is going to backfire. Lack of sleep accounts for weight gain because of disturbance in the body clock and the body’s functioning.

2. Working out every day

It has often been said that excess of everything is bad. Giving your body time to rest and recover is extremely important. Having a regular workout regimen is a good thing and helps maintain consistency but working out every day leaves out no time for repairing the wear and tear that is caused to the body during exercising. Make sure you leave out a day or two in the week for your body to recuperate and function efficiently.

3. Excessive sleep

Even though too little sleep is harmful to health, too much of it isn’t good either. Surpassing the eight-hour mark of sleep could increase the risk of heart disease, diabetes and even obesity. Sleeping for seven to eight hours every day is enough for the body and should not be exceeded. It also affects the metabolism and affects it adversely.

4. Consuming low-fat and no sugar foods

People who are on a diet often end up craving sugary foods that are forbidden as a part of their diet. To compensate for the taste while leaving out the calories, they switch to foods that are low-fat and have ‘no added sugar’. Even though they might pose as healthy options that help weight loss, these foods may contain preservatives and artificial sweeteners that can thwart weight loss attempts.

5. Not eating the egg yolk

Adding proteins to your diet is considered to be one of the most important steps towards weight loss. To lose weight, it is vital to have more protein and less fat in your diet. Eggs are considered to be one of the richest sources of protein and people remove the yolk to get rid of the ‘fat’ present in eggs. However, this also deprives one of the vitamins and choline present in the yolk. Lack of Vitamin D in the body is associated with increased weight. The yolk is also very filling and in its absence, the egg becomes a less filling food option.
