One of the most common complaints made by those trying to shed kilos have is that they gain all the weight back once they get off the diet and exercise regime they were following.

Some even end up gaining more weight than they lost over the course of six months or a year, leaving them disheartened.

Addressing this common concern, a top nutritionist on her Instagram handle revealed that people gain weight after losing them because they only focus on the number on the weighing scale.

The approach does not really work in the long run neither does it benefit you much. Always focus on improving the overall health, which will eventually lead to weight loss.

Here are four important things to take note when trying to shed kilos.

1. Is there an improvement in your fitness tests?

The first thing is to witness changes in the overall fitness level by performing some tests in the comfort of your home. These tests actually reveal your fitness level and the efficiency of your internal organs. As per her, every individual must take two fitness tests:

Squatting on the chair: In this, you have to measure the number of times you can sit on a chair with incorrect posture and get up without taking the help of your hands.

Sit and reach test: In this, you have to sit on a chair, stretch your legs and try to touch your toes by stretching your hands.

Make sure you measure these two numbers and improve them for better health.

2. Is there an improvement in your waist to hip ratio?

The second trick is to measure the waist to hip ratio with an inch of tape. It helps to understand the total fat lost during the entire weight loss journey as losing fat is much more essential than losing weight. For that, take a measurement tape and measure the narrowest circumference of your waist and the broadest part of your hip. Notice the changes and try to reduce them. For women, the waist to hip ratio should be between 0.7 to 0.85 and for men, it should be between 0.85 to 0.95.

3. Is there an improvement in your daily life?

When you are trying to shed kilos another major factor to notice is the improvement in your daily life like sleeping habits, eating time, mood swings, bowel movements and others. Once these things get on track you will automatically shed kilos. Improving your overall lifestyle habits will eventually improve your health and you will be able to shed kilos much faster.

4. Is there an improvement in the blood reports for cholesterol/ BP/ Hba1c?

Last but not the least, if you are suffering from any health condition, get yourself regularly tested to see if there is any improvement in it. When your internal organs function efficiently, your diabetes, blood pressure and thyroid level will come down. Your overall health will improve and you will be able to lose weight much faster.
