5 expert tips to make the perfect bread at home

There’s nothing that smells more welcoming, appetising and comforting than smell of freshly-baked breads.


The smell wafting from the kitchen floors is such an inviting pull for friends and family.

We all have a bunch of recipes bookmarked on our browsers, saved in diaries and saved on the gram. It’s always fun to try new recipes for our loved ones, isn’t it?

But there’s more hard work and hundreds of variations than we presume that goes into baking. Baking bread is more science than we know!

We have listed some basic bread recipes for you. However, after series of trials and error, we have zeroed on some of the simple baking bread recipes, which makes us nostalgic and hungry at the same time.

Cook time: 50-70 mins | Prep time: 20 mins | Serving Size: 2 loaves

Ingredients
– 5 gm active dry yeast
– 3 tbsp white sugar
– 2½ cups warm water
– 3 tbsp butter, softened
– 1 tbsp salt
– 6½ cups all-purpose flour

Method

Step 1: Take a large bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Mix in butter, salt and two cups of the flour.

Step 2: Put in the remaining flour. But only 1/2 cup at a time and beat well after each addition. Stir everything together till the dough has pulled together. Turn it out onto a lightly-floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 7-8 minutes.

Step 3: Gently grease the large bowl with. Transfer the dough into the bowl and coat with oil. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume. Leave it for about an hour.

Step 4: Deflate the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Part the dough into 2 equal pieces and form into loaves. Place the loaves into two lightly-greased 9×5 inch loaf pans. Cover the loaves with a damp cloth and let rise until doubled in volume, for about 40 minutes.

Step 5: Preheat oven to 220ËšC and bake at 190 ËšC for about 30 minutes. Check the bread, and it the top/crown looks golden brown in colour.
