5 most allergy causing foods that we eat daily

We often blame allergies on foods that we eat outside, but you will be shocked to know that even home cooked meals can lead to food allergies?


There’s no denying that food is essential for survival, but there are certain foods that can not just wreak havoc on the system by causing sudden allergies, but can also turn fatal for people suffering from underlying food allergies.

1. Cow’s milk

Have you ever felt a strange uneasiness and discomfort after drinking milk? Well, we often blame it on a common condition called lactose intolerance, but there is a lot more than what meets the eye. Drinking dairy based milk can trigger food allergies and it is very common among babies and kids under 3 years.

Although most studies claim that kids outgrow this condition after a few years. As per a study it was found that drinking cow or dairy based milk can lead to these conditions that indicate food allergy:

swelling, rashes, hives, vomiting, and, in rare cases, anaphylaxis. In case of food allergy from milk the reaction starts immediately after 5-6 minutes of intake, but incase of non-allergic reactions it affects majorly the digestive health and gut health.

2. ​Eggs

One of the most consumed staples are eggs and the allergy caused by them can be very common. According to a digital journal, The Healthline, around 68% of children are allergic to eggs and they often outgrow their allergy by the age of 16. The symptoms of this allergy can remain subtle to fatal, which is rare. Some of the common symptoms may involve stomach ache, diarrhea, skin rashes, respiratory problems and anaphylaxis. The allergy from eggs may also differ from the egg white to egg yolks. Thus, do seek medical guidance in case of sudden reactions after eating eggs.

3. Peanuts

Another most common and fatal allergy is peanut allergy, which is common in both children and adults. Peanut allergy symptoms may vary from skin rashes to chronic redness, itching or tingling in or around the mouth and throat, which can lead to nausea or vomiting or may feel like choking up of the throat. This allergy can also be caused by the intake of peanut butter, and avoiding this nut throughout the life of the only solution.

4. Soy

Soy allergies are also common in kids, this is caused due to intake of soy or soy based foods. With age most kids outgrow this allergy, but in some cases it lasts upto a lifetime. Common symptoms of this allergy are itchy, tingly mouth and runny nose to a rash and asthma or breathing difficulties and may also lead to anaphylaxis. This condition can also be triggered by intake of soy milk, tofu and other common day-to-day foods.

5. Wheat

Wheat allergy can be a result of the allergic response to one of the proteins found in wheat. This is triggered by consumption of wheat based foods and can lead to subtle to severe conditions like hives, vomiting, rashes, swelling and even anaphylaxis. People with wheat allergy also known as celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity must avoid wheat and other grains that contain the protein gluten.
