Apple cider vinegar for weight loss: 5 do’s and don’ts to keep in mind

For those thinking if apple cider vinegar really works for weight loss or not – it does.

Several studies have shown that ACV (apple cider vinegar) lowers the rise in glucose that happens after eating food.

With less rise in glucose, the body doesn’t need to make as much insulin as before. Due to lesser insulin, the body will break down more fat, which can result in weight loss.

Apple cider vinegar also improves insulin sensitivity, so you are less likely to accumulate deep belly fat.

ACV also has a mild appetite-suppressing effect so one is likely to eat less during their meal, if they drink apple cider vinegar before. It also helps you to keep feeling full for longer.

Despite all the advantages, it is suggested that one should drink this under strict supervision of a health expert, such as your doctor or nutritionist.

Further, make sure you exercise regularly and eat a healthy, balanced diet along with ACV for healthy weight loss.

Here are some important do’s and don’t to keep in mind before using ACV for weight loss:

1. DO dilute it

ACV is extremely acidic and drinking it directly can damage your tooth enamel as well as upset your stomach. Never consume it directly in its concentrated form, make sure you dilute it in water. 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar is enough for diluting in 1 cup of water.

2. DO use as salad dressing

Since drinking too much of ACV can be harmful for your health, there are also other ways to consume it. You could use it as a dressing for salads, along with some olive oil and reap similar weight loss benefits.

3. DON’T drink immediately after a meal

It is not advisable to drink ACV right after eating your food. This is because it can create problems with your digestion. If you want to drink it after food, wait for at least 20 minutes. It is best to consume it before eating your meals.

4. DON’T drink too much

Weight loss benefits of apple cider vinegar may promote you to drink too much of it. However, excessive ACV can be dangerous for your body. It can create burning sensations, irritate your throat and lead to other side effects. So remember to consume only small quantities. Do not drink beyond 2 tablespoons a day and make sure it is first diluted.

5. DON’T drink right before sleeping

Drinking ACV before sleeping will not be beneficial. Instead, it can be harmful for your throat and esophagus. It is best to drink it before your last meal. Even if you drink it later, make sure there is at least a 30 minutes gap.
