5 things you need to do before the baby arrives

Congratulations! Your baby will finally be here in a few months, weeks or maybe even days (don’t panic).

You’re about to move into a new phase in your life whether you’re a first-time mom or not.

The last few weeks or days before a baby arrives are very crucial. This is when you need to confirm if everything is ready so that when your delivery date arrives you’re all set.

As you wait and continue preparing, this list will help you confirm if you’re on the right path or if you have some more shopping to do:

Get your hospital bag ready

It’s always a good idea to have your hospital bag ready way before your due date. When that time comes you want to be as relaxed as possible, and the last thing you would want is to panic over what you’ve packed and items you might have forgotten.

You want to ensure that you have all the hospital bag essentials including important documents. You can check online for a checklist to help you prepare better.

Shop for enough baby clothes

Preparing also means making sure you have enough baby clothes. Remember that they will mostly need essentials like onesies rather than full fancy outfits until they grow older.

The other thing is that they will outgrow these clothes rapidly so don’t just focus on newborn clothes only. Have a variety of sizes for the next few months ahead so you won’t have to do more shopping at a time when you need to recover.

However, don’t buy an excessive amount. Just have a few that will push you for some time until you are able to buy more.

Buy some nursing essentials

You should also ensure you have enough nursing essentials like nursing clothes, bras and pads. You could check online to see what options are available or if you’re still able to, go shopping.

You could also have some of the maternity clothes you already have adjusted (like adding a zipper) so that you don’t have to buy new items that you’ll only use for a short period of time.

Prep your space

It’s also very important to organize your space in a way that will accommodate you and the baby in a convenient way.

This might mean getting someone to deep clean and rearrange some things and organise your supplies so that they’re easily accessible. Doing this will help you have a much easier time settling back in once the baby comes.

Organize for some extra help

It’s also wise not to assume that you’ll be able to do everything on your own. You never know, you might need more time to heal, and even when you don’t, you need support.

This is the time when you should be figuring out who will help you out whether it’s a house help if you don’t have one, or a family member.

It would be much better to have someone around immediately rather than have that extra burden of looking for someone later.
