When it comes to cooking, there are a number of processes involved in making a single dish.

From boiling potatoes and making garlic paste to cooking dal and making stale chips crispy again, a microwave can come in handy in various situations.

It is wise to make the most out of the equipment you have in the kitchen in order to save time and efforts.

If you have a microwave at home, then do try these genius hacks once.

1. Make garlic paste

To make garlic paste in the easiest way possible, take one whole garlic and cut it in a way that ¼ part of garlic head is removed and the cloves are exposed. Remove the outer peels of the garlic. Place the whole garlic in a small bowl and smear 1 spoon of olive oil all over the garlic. Add 2 tablespoons of water to the bowl and cover it properly with a cling film. Place the bowl in the microwave for about 10 minutes. Now let the garlic cool down a bit and squeeze out all the garlic paste into a bowl and mash it well using a fork. Store the paste in an airtight container and use it whenever you want.

2. Boil potatoes

Boil potatoes within minutes by using this genius microwave hack. Take 2 potatoes and wash them properly. Now prick the potatoes using a fork. Take a microwave-safe bowl and add ½ cup of water to it. Place the water bowl in the microwave and place both potatoes on the microwave’s rotating plate. Set the timer for 8 minutes. After 8 minutes, take out the bowl from the microwave and remove the boiled potatoes. Once the potatoes have cooled down a bit, remove the peel and they are ready for use.

3. Soften a lemon

It is often difficult to extract the juice from a hard lemon. To fix it, wash the lemon and place it in the microwave for 15 seconds. This will soften the pulp of the lemon and make the juice-extracting process easier.

4. Cook dal

Have run out of gas and need to cook dal for lunch? Easily cook it in a microwave with this trick. Take ½ cup toor dal and ½ cup masoor dal. Wash both the dals well and add them to a large microwave-safe bowl. Add 2 cups of water along with salt as per taste and ½ tsp turmeric powder. Now place the bowl in the microwave and set the timer for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, take out the bowl from the microwave and mash it a bit. Add about ½ cup of hot water to the dal to adjust the consistency. Give a mix and set it aside. You can prepare a tadka of your choice in a similar way and mix it with the dal.

5. Make onion less stingy

Peeling onions is a task in itself. To make the job easier, use this hack to make onion less stingy for the eyes. Take an onion and trim both the sides. Place the onion in the microwave for 30 seconds. This will eliminate the volatile sulphur compounds that is the main component that causes tears during peeling of onion.

6. Fix stale chips

Has your chips turned stale? Fix them in a jiffy by using this trick. Take a baking tray and place a parchment paper or kitchen towel on it. Place all the chips on the tray and microwave for 30 seconds. If the chips are crispy, take them out, if not then microwave them for another 30 seconds.
