6 tips to save your skin from post-workout acne

While physical activity is said to be one of the most essential practices to keep yourself fit, healthy, active, and of course, in shape, it is also a great method to enhance the glow of your skin by stimulating blood circulation, bringing oxygen-rich blood to the skin, and keeping it free of breakouts.

Acne can be caused by excessive sweating, as well as an accumulation of oil, filth, and germs on your skin.

Despite this, folks who want cleaner skin don’t have to stop exercising. The key is to stay clean prior to, during, and after your workouts.

A solid workout session can also expose you to conditions wherein the acne-causing bacteria and yeast can grow in warm, moist places like sweaty exercise equipment and locker rooms.

Don’t let that put a damper on your workout routine. Maintain proper hygiene before, during, and after your workout, and follow these tips below.

1. Remove Your Makeup Before Hitting The Sack

The blood flow to our skin rises while we exercise. As a result, the pores open up. Perspiration and germs can become caught in the pores when a layer of makeup is applied to the skin, resulting in acne.

2. Clean Your Equipment

Make sure any exercise equipment that comes in contact with your skin has a clean surface. Since the equipment is used by a large number of fitness freaks at the gym, it may retain oil, dirt, and/or bacteria. Make sure you have your own headphones if you work out while listening to music.

3. Tie A Knot On Your Hair

When exercising, tie your hair with a knot if possible. When hair falls on the face, natural oils and hair care products can transfer to the skin and trap moisture. This can clog the pores and lead to acne.

4. Avoid Touching Your Face

Avoid touching your face with your hands repeatedly when exercising. “This is due to the fact that any dirt, dust, or germs from the gym equipment can be transferred to your body, most likely to your face, causing pore blockage and leading to skin problems. Remember that your facial skin is more fragile than the rest of your body,” says Dr. Noopur.

5. Get Out Of Your Gym Clothes ASAP

After a workout, the longer you keep your gym clothes on, the more bacteria and dirt will accumulate in your skin pores. Furthermore, the tight-fitting straps of the sports bra will irritate your skin by rubbing against it.

6. Showering Is Essential

No matter how weary you are after a rigorous gym workout, you must shower. Shower with lukewarm water instead of hot water. Hot water removes essential oils from your skin, leaving it dry and itchy. Use an ‘oil-free’ cleanser to wash your face and body. But, first and foremost, make sure you wash your hands! They transport the most pathogens and debris.

7. Clean Up

After a shower, put on clean clothes and dump your old workout clothes in the washing machine. Wear the same workout clothes only twice before washing them.

Don’t let acne stop you from gaining the endless benefits of exercise. By simply being aware of the most common causes of workout-related acne and knowing ways to avoid those, you can enjoy your workouts acne-free!
