If you are someone who loves steaks as much as we do, then you must read on as we have some amazing tips and tricks to rustle up some restaurant-style steak right in the comfort of your home.

There’s nothing more alluring than a plate of perfectly cooked tender steak served on a bed of veggies, mashed potatoes and topped with a lip-smacking and flavoursome spiced sauce.

The choice of steak and its style of cooking is totally up to you, but there are a few tips and tricks that work on almost all types of cuts and your preference of cooking the steak.

So, here’s how you can perfectly cook steak at home and indulge in the heavenly restaurant-like experience.

1. Oil the steak

Once you choose your cut, wash and clean it and pat dry. Next, coat the steak with some oil. Make sure you choose an oil with high smoking point as the oil breaks down at higher temperature, but going for an oil with high smoking point ensures that the steak does not stick to the pan when cooked or grilled on high temperatures. It also helps in cooking the meat faster.

2. Season/Marinate the steak

Seasoning the steak with some oil and freshly grounded pepper, herbs or salt can help in giving that flavoursome touch. Oil helps in holding the seasoning and the flavours, even when you add sauces while cooking the steak, marinating and seasoning the steak retains the flavours.

3. Preheat the grill /Cast iron pan

To get the perfect smoked flavour, make sure you preheat the grill or oven around 200 degree celsius. If you are making steak in a cast iron pan, then heat the pan and add oil to check the heat and allow it to heat. This ensures perfectly cooked exteriors of the steak.

4. Place the steak

Placement of the steak is important and it is always a great idea to place the steak at the centre of the pan, when the oil or the sauce is hot. This releases smoke and sizzles for some time. Let it cook for two minutes and then flip the side. Cook the steak by flipping the sides. Before moving the steak to the grill make sure you place a cube of butter over it to accentuate the flavour.

5. Test the temperature

Check the temperature of the steak by using a kitchen thermometer and once the centre of the steak reaches around 5 Fahrenheit or 2.7 Celsius remove the steak from heat as it is below the target temperature. You can cook it for 55 degree celsius, if you want a medium rare steak. It majorly depends on your preference of steak, whether you like it tender or perfectly cooked. Lastly add butter cubes and take it out and enjoy!
