We are almost halfway through 2023 and if you are already cursing yourself for getting the annual gym membership (and overestimating your dedication level), be rest assured that you are not alone.
However, it is time to stop moping around and start exercising like you never really stopped.
How to keep going!
If you are a fan of the ‘new year, new me’ concept, it is important to understand that there is no better time to begin your fitness journey than the present. Even though there is something incredibly exciting about starting from a clean slate, it certainly requires a tremendous amount of willpower.
So, as inviting as starting from the scratch sounds, it is also really demotivating when it does not work out. If your new year goals haven’t quite panned out (just like ours), we tell you some ways you can amp up your fitness levels long after the motivation has gone. You can thank us later.
1. Set really small goals
One of the biggest mistakes that most people make is setting farfetched and unrealistic goals. It can prove really counter-effective if you haven’t exercised from the beginning of the time and aim to lose a lot of weight or get really buffed.
Our advice? Set small and achievable goals in the beginning as it will help you in developing a habit. For example, instead of working out daily or hitting the gym 5 times a week, make it a point to do stretching or go for a walk for ten minutes daily. It is also important to plan your workout around the time you feel the most comfortable with and be flexible with your timings. Remember, you have gradually gained all the weight over the years, so it will take some time to shed the same.
2. Start with simple changes
When it comes to adopting healthy habits, it is important that you do not go overboard with the same. Be realistic and start with simple changes that you can easily accommodate in your daily routine.
You can begin by scheduling a light workout session for the first week, make minor dietary changes in the next week and so on and so forth. Remember, small and achievable changes can pave the way to a healthier lifestyle.
3. Get yourself a cool workout attire
If you are not able to stick to an exercise routine, despite your best intentions, we suggest buying cute workout gear. This is because when you wear a top-bra hybrid and cut-out leggings or any fun workout attire, you are mentally preparing yourself to be more active to sweat it out.
So, the next time you feel that your fitness motivation is dipping, maybe opting for a fancy workout clothing can do the trick for you.
