Thandiswa Mazwai frowns at Uganda’s anti-homosexuality law

South African singer, Thandiswa Mazwai slams the anti-homosexuality law signed on Monday by President Yoweri Museveni.

The law calls for life imprisonment for anyone who engages in gay sex. Anyone who tries to have same-sex relations could be liable for up to a decade in prison.

The law also decrees the death penalty for anyone convicted of “aggravated homosexuality,” a term defined as acts of same-sex relations with children or disabled people, those carried out under threat or while someone is unconscious. The offense of “attempted aggravated homosexuality” carries a sentence of up to 14 years.

The singer took to her Instagram account and frowned at how the Ugandan government restricts the freedom of her people.

“When love is illegal. When love will get you killed. When politics enter your bedroom. Remember the immorality act that said black&white could not fall in love? It won’t stop with the gays. They will decide to control something you hold dear next time. Freedom is our birthright and so is the right to pursue happiness,” she wrote.
