5 ways to know you’re a poor cook

Laughter is definitely good for the soul, but so is good food.

When you’ve had a tough day and you remember that you’re having your favourite meal for dinner, you suddenly feel better.

Truly, we can never underestimate the benefits of eating food that has been made with love and care.

It takes time to learn your way around the kitchen, so being a good cook definitely earns you some points.

On the other hand, there are people who think they know how to cook but really can’t. And many of us have been there.

Sometimes you don’t even realise that your cooking skills are lacking, and if you’re wondering if you fall into this category, these five signs will tell you:

1. You’re surprised if you don’t burn anything

The fact that you’re surprised when you don’t end up with black charred pieces or a burnt layer at the bottom of your pan should tell you all you need to know. You burn everything whether you’re frying sausages or boiling peas, and that is the biggest sign right there.

Rarely do people who know how to cook burn their meals so yes, you’re probably not super talented in the kitchen.

2. Your guests are always reaching for condiments

When food is really good, we rarely think of adding any additional table condiments like tomato sauce, unless they naturally go together. In fact, we don’t want to ruin the flavor by adding anything extra.

You will be able to tell the situation if you notice your guests are always quick to ask for ketchup or other table condiments even before tasting your food. They could be secretly trying to make the food more bearable to eat without telling you directly.

3. You don’t get any compliments

Usually, people will give compliments about food that is delicious even without you asking for feedback. As soon as someone takes a bite, you will see some positive cues that they love what they’re eating.

The opposite happens when the food is kind of mediocre. They might not tell you that the food is bad but you won’t receive compliments either. So if you’ve just made food you think is amazing but no one said anything and no one is going for seconds, it might need some work.
4. Your kitchen always looks perfect

If your kitchen always looks brand new, you might be a poor cook. It means you use it to prepare small, basic meals here and there and maybe even ready to eat meals like a bowl of cereal but after that, you’re out of there.

Your kitchen is begging to be utilized so you could start experimenting more to improve your cooking skills.

5. You’re only famous for one basic meal

Being recognized for only making tasty eggs, a salad or any other basic meal isn’t a bad thing but, it’s not too good either. It’s even worse if that meal doesn’t require any cooking in the first place. It could be the only thing that people enjoy so this is your sign to up your cooking skills.
