Being a globetrotter is one of the most coveted things in the world.
After all, which traveller wouldn’t like to explore various destinations across the world and experience different cultures?
However, there are a few things that bother these globetrotters, and one of those major things is the jet lag they have to deal with.

After all, it is not a nice feeling for any traveller to have that sense of fatigue and dizziness after spending an amazing holiday, especially when you are back home after a long haul flight.

Also, the feeling of jet lag is not a nice thing if you are experiencing it just when you have reached your desired destination.
As per the World Health Organisation (WHO), jet lag can affect your overall body clock, which can lead to indigestion, disturbance in the bowel function and blood pressure fluctuations, among other disorders and discomforts.
But this story is not to scare you away from travelling or taking those long-haul flights to your dream destinations.
Here are a few tips on how you can save yourself from getting that horrible jet lag.

1. Divide your journey: Instead of taking that non-stop long-haul flight to your desired destination, it is better if you split your journey into different flights. Yes, it will take you more time to reach your destination, but then it will give your body enough time to adjust to the changing conditions and routine.

2. Realign your body clock: This is more important than you realise. One of the major reasons why you get a jet lag is the difference in the local timing of your destination. Starting from three days before the day of your departure, start shifting your sleeping schedule by an hour or two; this will help you in adjusting to the new timings of the destination easily.

3. Never fall asleep when you reach: Yes, you will be tired and you will feel like nothing but crashing onto the bed for a sound sleep. But to avoid a jet lag, it is best advised that instead of falling asleep you head out for a walk in the neighbourhood or at least spend some time in the outdoors. This will help you acclimatise more easily and keep you away from the discomforts. Try and catch some sleep in the flight instead.

4. Drink lots of water: Avoid alcohol and coffee and instead opt for water every time you are on a long-haul flight. This is mainly because it is a necessity to keep yourself well hydrated in order to avoid sickness that could make your jet lag worse.

5. Opt for a workout: In case you reach your destination quite late at night that you can’t go out, head to the hotel’s gym and sweat out a bit. Well, workout after a long-haul flight might sound like a daunting task, but then it will help regulate the blood flow in your body and hence reduce the chances of getting a jet lag.

6. Let the sunshine kiss you: The moment you reach your destination after that long-haul flight, let the bright sunshine bathe you over. Exposure to sunlight at the destination not only helps you adjust your body temperature with the prevailing climate of the place, but also the Vitamin D helps you keep jet lag at bay. Besides, it also makes you feel fresh and less tired.
