Playing sports is a great form of exercise for overall healthy living.
Though all physical activities are beneficial, according to recent research published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings, they all have different effects on the body, especially when it comes to life expectancy.
According to the epidemiological study of Danish women and men, people who frequently participated in tennis and other racket and team sports lived longer than people who did not play any sport.
They also lived longer than other people who took part in reliably healthy but solitary activities like swimming, cycling and jogging.
The result

This proves that social interactions play a role in augmenting the benefits of exercise. But there is no doubt that physical activity can improve our health and extend our longevity.

But whether some particular activity is better than other for a longer life still remains a dispute. Another widely publicized 2017 study of more than 80,000 British women and men found that people who played racket sports outlived those who jogged.

As running is a widely popular form of exercise, scientists also examined the link between jogging and longevity. They found out that a moderate amount of moderately paced running has greater gains including longevity as compared to strenuous or more-gentle running.

Tip

Being active helps in keeping your heart in shape, improving blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Not just this, exercising regularly has been linked with benefits for the brain and lowered risk of some types of cancers.
Any type of physical activity is good. People who exercise have lower mortality overall as compared to people who do not exercise at all. So, it’s up to an individual and his/her circumstances on which physical activity or sport they choose.
