Nigerians and South Africans are at war over Amapiano genre following the Hamba Wena copyright infringement saga.
The conflict isn’t new, as the two countries have gone against each other on social media over ownership of the genre.
It is without doubt that the genre is originated in South Africa, however, Nigerians are claiming that they made the sound go global.
On Thursday, the conflict got reignited after SA music producer Deep London took legal action against Nigerian artist Smada for sampling the hit song, Hamba Wena.
Nigerians entered the defensive mode and went as far as slandering South Africans.
Mzansi didn’t keep mute as they utilised every effort to protect their genre.

First video is Boohle’s Amapiano song which South Africans are accusing Smada of stealing, while the second video is Smada and poco lee song. Listen to both, is there any similarity? pic.twitter.com/rDRuhh5oP5

Smada, I have a dare for you. I dare you to make an original amapiano song, no stolen lyrics or flows, completely original, and if it slaps, I’ll buy you deodorant. Deal? https://t.co/Sv4fi4WB9M

South Africans are just really pissed that Nigerians made the Amapiano genre global, it’s 2023 and it’s very very safe to say Nigerians own Amapiano. the stats are there for the world to see, there’s no denial — the whole world never knew such genre existed until Kabza De Small…

First, it was Ghanaians dragging Nigerians over who created highlife and Afrobeats. Now the table has turned to South Africans dragging Nigeria for trying to claim Amapiano. pic.twitter.com/mxTen5Uexk

South Africa got so many sounds in their country from kwaito to Marabi and so on but Amapiano is the most popular and biggest. Amapiano wasn’t global till Nigerians started doing it. Nigerians made it huge. If Nigerians decide to do Kwaito today, it will go global like Amapiano
