South African celebrities pay tribute to the multi-talented legend Dr Mbongeni Ngema who died on Wednesday evening.
Mbongeni was reportedly coming from a funeral in Lusikisiki when he passed away.
The Sarafina creator died in a head-on collision involving a truck and a Mercedes Benz he was traveling in.
“What a loss to the creative arts industry💔UBaba U Mbongeni Ngema will be remembered for generations to come. Thank you for inspiring us with your creative work and music. Condolences to the Ngema family. Lala Ngoxolo Madlokovu,” Sophie Ndaba wrote.
“I’m saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Mbongeni Ngema, one of South Africa’s great playwrights, directors, lyricists and composers. Dr Ngema’s internationally acclaimed work, from Sarafina to Stimela sase Zola, told distinctly South African stories and experiences,” Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa said.
