Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma retires from parliament at 74

Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth, and People with Disabilities Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma retired from Parliament on Friday.

Dlamini announced her retirement following an invitation to attend the interview for the 2024 National list.

The ANC is in the process of interviewing candidates for the national list to stand in Parliament after nominations from branches. It has so far interviewed 200 of the 300 candidates – this ahead of the 2024 polls.

The 74-year-old has served as a member of the cabinet since 1994.

Dlamini-Zuma expressed gratitude in her letter to the governing party.

“I am eternally grateful for making it possible for me to serve the continent as the first woman at the helm of the African Union Commission and the first.”
