Fashion trends of 2024: Here are 5 looks we loved and hated

As 2024 draws to a close, we take a look at what fashion trends dominated throughout the year.

While some trends managed to stick around from last year, we did however get few fresh looks to add to wardrobes this year.

While some trends didn’t quite sit well with some of us, there are a few looks we loved so much that we are hoping we will see more of in 2025.

1. Pointed toe shoes

2023 was a big year for the classic ballet pump but this year we saw the rise of the pointy shoe.

This style was most popular with a kitten heel and slingbacks. They elongate your legs and add a touch of chic to any look.

While pointy shoes might have been all the rage this year, I don’t see it finding its way back into 2025.

They might look great but they are certainly not comfortable.

2. Shades of brown

From rich chocolate mousse to warm tan, shades of brown definitely had a moment this year.

While this new neutral tone was popular during the cooler months in leather and suede it will remain a must-have shade in summer 2025.

Think boho-style dresses and lux-leisure wear.

3. Oversized bags

In 2023 it was all about the micro-bags but this year was the year of the big bags.

Women needed to fit everything from their laptops to an outfit change in their bags!

From structured to slouchy, these oversized bags will remain in style into 2025.

4. Crew socks

Gone are the days of secret socks – well for now anyway.

This year we saw the return of crew socks and during winter it was especially fashionable to cover up those ankles.

If you still wore secret socks with your sneakers or pumps, your look immediately looked dated.

5. Horseshoe jeans

By now we all know that skinny jeans are out. If you’re still hanging onto yours it really is time to let them go.

Barrel-leg or horseshoe jeans were this year’s “it” style jeans. With a high waist and a voluminous leg, these pants gave you a bit more shape than those super-baggy jeans that we saw in 2023.

We’re all about comfort so let’s hope we will see more of this look in 2025.

Oval shaped sunglasses

Personally, I’m a huge fan of over-sized sunglasses but this year we saw the rise of smaller sunglasses, especially the oval shape ones. We can thank stars like Haily Bieber for the trend.

I suspect the look will stay with us into 2025.

6. No-pants pants

I had hoped to see the back of this trend at the beginning of 2024 but unfortunately, it continued into the year. Yes, even during winter. We even saw the look dominating the red carpet.

Celebs really need to give this trend a break so that people can go back to wearing pants again.
