Coachella Randy apologizes amid backlash over controversial Vlog

Award-winning social media influencer Oratile Masedi, widely recognized as Coachella Randy, faces backlash after sharing a controversial vlog.

The video features Masedi and his friends enjoying a night out and drinking, sparking outrage among social media users.

Critics accused the Birth of Stars reality show star of promoting drinking and driving.

Birth of Stars, a reality series centered on the lives of three LGBTQIA+ creatives—Coachella Randy, Kamo WW, and Kagiso Mogola—has garnered attention for its celebration of individuality and creativity.

Masedi, son of the late veteran TV presenter Vinolia Mashego, has become a prominent figure in entertainment, known for his social media skits, stylish red-carpet appearances, and role on Birth of Stars.

Addressing the criticism, he took to social media to clarify the situation and express his remorse.

“I wanna talk about the vlog I recently uploaded. And I have seen a lot of people are offended about my actions and I take it. There is a time in the vlog where I am giving Hlomani a shot. And just so we are clear, he was not drinking at all until we got to the groove spot,” explained Masedi.

He continued, “It is not an excuse, it is wrong, and I take it, and I am learning. Not that I did not know. But I would not do anything intentional to put anyone’s life in danger, regarding drinking and driving. I want to apologise to people who took offence. It will never happen again, I have learnt.”

Masedi also revealed he had disabled comments on his post, stating it was to avoid further conflict. “I closed my comments because I did not want to engage at the time because I am scared of getting into people’s bad books,” he added.
