Tony Forbes sparks debate after seemingly snubbing Bheki Cele in resurfaced courtroom clip
Tony Forbes, father of the late rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, is once again in the spotlight after an old video of him appearing to snub former Police Minister Bheki Cele went viral online.
The clip, which has resurfaced amid renewed interest in the rapper’s murder case, shows Forbes walking into a courtroom and seemingly ignoring Cele while greeting KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
In the footage, Cele can be seen extending his hand towards Forbes, but the grieving father walks past him without acknowledgment, instead offering a handshake and smile to Mkhwanazi, who was seated beside Cele.
The brief yet noticeable moment has sparked widespread speculation across social media, with many South Africans questioning whether Forbes harbours resentment towards Cele due to the lack of closure in AKA’s murder investigation.
AKA was gunned down outside a Durban restaurant over two years ago, and while suspects have been arrested, many questions surrounding the case remain unanswered.
Tony Forbes has been a consistent presence at court proceedings, showing a determined commitment to uncovering the truth behind his son’s killing.
As the video gained traction, another version of the moment, shared by news platform NewsLiveSA offered a slightly different angle.
In this unedited footage, Forbes appears to greet Cele after all, casting some doubt on the initial assumptions.
Still, the first clip continues to fuel debate, especially considering recent bombshell allegations made by the Police Commissioner implicating high-ranking officials in various misconducts.
