Nigerian community demands justice after man is shot dead during ‘Sizokthola’ operation in Windsor East

A Nigerian national was shot and killed in Windsor East during an operation linked to the crime-fighting show Sizokthola, sparking calls for answers from the Nigerian community in South Africa.
The incident involved ActionSA Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate Xolani Khumalo, whose party confirmed he was present during the operation.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng said officers were not part of the operation that led to the fatal shooting and only arrived at the scene after receiving a call.
The deceased has been identified as Emeka Clement Uzor, also known as Rugert.
According to a community member, he had recently been released from prison after serving 11 months for possession of narcotics.
“He has a wife and children back in Nigeria. He came to South Africa to hustle. Rugert was recently released after spending 11 months in prison. On the day Xolani and his people arrived, everyone started running, and Rugert was running towards his car when he was shot,” the community member said.
Following the shooting, the Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) called for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Uzor’s death.
The organisation is seeking clarity on how the operation was conducted and has warned that members of the Nigerian community may protest if justice is not served.
Authorities are expected to investigate the matter further as questions continue to mount over the events that led to the fatal shooting.
