South Africans have been warned by the US government over a possible terrorist attack that will take place in Sandton, Johannesburg, from the 29th of October.
In an official statement released on the US embassy website, the group responsible for the forthcoming attack was revealed.
“This information comes against the backdrop of the Islamic State group’s public call for its adherents to carry out terrorist attacks globally during the upcoming month of Ramadan.”
South Africans have been urged to avoid large gatherings, especially in the Sandton area, as it’s vague how the attack will happen.
“The U.S. government has received information that terrorists may be planning to conduct an attack targeting large gatherings of people at an unspecified location in the greater Sandton area of Johannesburg, South Africa, on 29 October 2022.”
“There is no further information regarding the timing, method, or target of the potential attack. The U.S. Embassy has advised staff to avoid crowds of people and other large public gatherings in the greater Sandton area of Johannesburg during the weekend of 29-30 October 2022.”
