Whether you are the parent of a newborn or caretaker, we can all agree to the simple fact that nothing tests your ninja skills more than soothing a crying baby.
This might be the reason that being able to calm a down a fussy child feels like a mini-achievement in itself.
Babies don’t really need a reason to cry, it is simply their way of communication.
They could be crying because you did not change the diaper on time or it could be simply because the little one wants to sleep.
While you try and learn to decode your baby’s cries, here are 5 simple ways you can calm him/her down. Thank us later.
1. Sing for your little one
A lot of parents underestimate the importance of their own voice when it comes to calming down a fussy newborn. Sing or hum any song, lullaby or even a poem of your choice. Your baby is bound to be comforted with your voice.
2. Rock the baby
This one is a no-brainer. Gently pick up your child in the lap and rock him/her back and forth. Remember to be gentle and calming. These motions may remind your little one of the time when he was safely tucked in the comfort of your womb.
3. Switch on a calming sound
From white noise to the whirring of the fan, a rhythmic, calming sound can remind them of the womb and help them relax. You can also try shushing the baby gently while rocking him in your arms.
4. Go out for a walk
You can also put the baby in the carrier and go out for a walk to change the mood of your little one. Yes, as tiny as they are, the newborns can also get easily bored. You can also get the baby toys that make noises to keep them entertained and interested.
5. Swaddle the baby
Swaddling the child mimics the comforting and calming warmth of a mother’s womb. Swadling is basically wrapping your in fact in a comfortable blanket to restrict the movement of the limbs. Being wrapped in a snugly blanket may help soothe the baby and aid sleeping also.
However, it is strongly advised to consult a paediatrician before you go ahead with the swaddling practice to avoid accidents and mishaps.
