Udeme Okon wins Gold Medal for South Africa
South Africa has scooped another gold medal as Udeme Okon won in the Men’s 400m race at the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships in Peru.
Okon crossed the line in 45.69 seconds to take the victory after he overhauled Americans Jayden Davis (46.08) and Sidi Njie (46.29) in the final straight.
Lythe Pillay who competed at the Paris Olympics, won the previous Under-20 World Championship in 2022.
South Africa’s minister of the department of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie congratulated Udeme for the win.
“Gold everywhere, well done Udeme Okon for your great victory in the men’s 400m final,” Gayton wrote.
