CAF fines Senegal $615k, Morocco $315k after AFCON final

Senegal and Morocco hit with heavy fines as players and coach face suspensions

The aftermath of the fiery 2025 AFCON final has seen CAF come down hard on both Senegal and Morocco, handing out hefty fines and suspensions following misconduct during and after the high-stakes clash.

Senegal emerged as the most heavily sanctioned, with CAF fining the federation a total of $615,000 for a combination of supporters’ behaviour and players’ misconduct.

The disciplinary action extends to the technical area, where head coach Pape Thiaw has been fined $100,000 and slapped with a five-match suspension for his conduct during the final.

On the pitch, Senegalese stars Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr have also been punished, each receiving a two-match suspension from CAF competitions.

The sanctions mark a significant blow for Senegal as they look ahead to future continental fixtures.

Morocco were not spared either as CAF fined the hosts $315,000 for misconduct involving stadium officials, players and staff, as well as the use of laser pointers during the match; an issue that drew widespread criticism on the night.

Individual Moroccan players were also disciplined.

Achraf Hakimi has been suspended for two CAF matches for unsporting behaviour, while Ismael Saibari received a $100,000 fine alongside a three-match suspension.

The strong response from CAF sends a clear message about discipline and conduct at Africa’s biggest football tournament.

While the final will be remembered for its drama on the field, its legacy now also includes one of the most severe post-match crackdowns in recent AFCON history.
