Eskom has declared the suspension of power cuts for Friday and said it hopes to keep the lights on for the next 48 hours
During the week, South Africans have had to deal with power cuts in the midst of a cold front.
Some days back, Mantshantsha urged citizens to lessen demand on the vulnerable grid.
It has been three days of constant load-shedding and Eskom have managed to build up enough capacity to allow lights remain on over the weekend.
Eskom declared the suspension of power cuts for Friday and said it hopes to keep the lights on for the next 48 hours.
Spokesman Sikonathi Manthshantsha said:
“After recovering three generation units overnight, Eskom is pleased to announce that the supply constraint eased sufficiently to allow for the suspension of load shedding. This also means there will be no load shedding for the weekend.”
“Eskom still urges the public to use electricity sparingly as the generation infrastructure is unreliable and volatile. Any deterioration in the power system may necessitate an escalation in the stage of load shedding.”
