Over 840 people apprehended for going against Level 2 lockdown regulations in Gauteng

Following the announcement of Level 2 lockdown so as to ease restrictions, some individuals still went ahead to go against the regulations in Gauteng.

The police have said a lot of crimes were committed by some individuals during the weekend. The crimes included:


  • rape,
  • murder,
  • assault, and
  • drunk driving.

During the weekend, which happened to be the first weekend under Level 2 lockdown, over 840 people got arrested in Gauteng for breaking lockdown rules.

In the midst of the arrest, two police officers were among for the crime of drunk driving.

Following the announcement of Level 2 lockdown so as to ease restrictions, some individuals still went ahead to go against the regulations in Gauteng.

Mathapelo Peters, from the police said:

Intensified operations so 285 suspects in Ekurhuleni, 215 in the west rand, 173 in Johannesburg, 170 in Sedibeng. The suspects were arrested for the contravention of the Disaster Management Act and other crimes that include assault to intend to do grievous bodily harm, possession of illegal firearms, intimidation and possession of drugs.”
