Sundowns are still behind Kaizer Chiefs, judging from goal difference between the two teams. Only two games are left to play in the 2019/20 season and having lost to Dylan Kerr’s Bakgaga 1-0, they have to up their game to retain the Absa Premiership Cup
Pitso Mosimane said his team were already aware of the way Bakgaga make use of set-pieces when available and got prepared.
But things got out of hand when Sundowns conceded from a corner kick and the match ended 1-0.
Bakgaga went away with the whole three points from the defending Absa Premiership champions to hinder them from opting to the top of the table, since Kaizer Chiefs lost the match against Bidvest Wits earlier on Sunday afternoon.
The Bakgaga’s corner kick goal that won the match was headed into the goal post by Ananias Gebhardt. Their win gives them hope in claiming a top flight status.
“What a game, it is unbelievable because I was warning the players and said if we can work hard on the set-pieces and corner kicks against a team (Chiefs) that has scored so many goals on set-pieces … I warned them … it has been a long time since we conceded a direct header from a corner kick,” said Mosimane in a virtual post-match conference.
“I told them not to under-estimate them (Baroka) because they have big boys. I don’t know if I jinxed them or cursed them but I am the coach and I have to warn them about these things. It is no use to say ‘I told you so’. We have to move on, that is the mistake that we made against Baroka, the rest is a different game,” Mosimane added.
On Wednesday, Sundowns will continue the fight for position one of the league table when they face a struggling Polokwane City.
