Tragedy struck on Tuesday when more than 18 miners were killed and more than a dozen trapped on Tuesday.
According to officials, the incident happened after a rockslide at a marble mine in northwest Pakistan occurred.
The Boulders of white marble came crashing down on these mineworkers on Monday evening in the mountainous Mohmand district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, near the border with Afghanistan.
Mine workers often rest at the bottom of the mountains after long hours of work.
Muhammad Arif, the provincial minister for mines and minerals development disclosed that 18 bodies and 20 injured have been pulled out after a rockslide at the marble mine.
He said about 20 more miners are suspected to be trapped under the rubble but a rescue team is on their way.
A senior official from Mohmand district, Hamid Iqbal, confirmed the death toll.
Pakistan’s mines are known for poor safety standards.
So many miners are killed each year in different safety-related incidents.
In 2011, more than 43 miners were killed in Sorange district of Balochistan as a result of a blast at a coal mine.
