The Health Department has now recorded an additional 2,029 COVID-19 cases, which takes the total infection in South Africa to 659,656.


The country is moving to alert level 1 lockdown regulations as the rate of infection is looking to be stabilising.

Government said it was satisfied with the response of South Africans to the pandemic, saying it was a collective effort of everyone to achieve the move to lockdown level one.

In the past 24 hours, eighty-three more COVID-19 related fatalities were reported. This takes the death toll to 15,940.

However, over 589,000 people have recovered from the coronavirus. The recovery rate now stands at 89.4 percent.
