Former Gauteng Health MEC Dr Bandile Masuku and presidential spokesperson Khusela Diko are expected to face disciplinary process over the allegations laid against them.
The duo are accused of corruption involving the multi-million-rand personal protective equipment (PPE) tender.
On Wednesday, the African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng disclosed that it is up to the disciplinary committee to decide if they would keep being members in the provincial executive committee (PEC).
The party’s integrity committee in July exposed Masuku, his wife Loyiso, and Diko for irregularities in the PPE tender when the R1 million tender was issued by the Health Department to Diko’s husband.
The couples are family friends.
The PEC was pleased when Premier David Makhura fired Masuku, but it wants a new MEC to be hired immediately.
It wants a replacement because the department is currently operating without a permanent head of department and a chief financial officer.
But Makhura made it known that Masuku could be reinstated if the Special Investigative Unit (SIU) cleared him of wrongdoing.
According to sources who were in attendance at the special meeting on Tuesday, the PEC was divided over Masuku and Diko’s political fate.
They committee decided to hand over their matter to the disciplinary committee to choose their fate.
Previously, the three were subjected to the party’s integrity commission, but its report was partly rejected.
It was sent to the provincial working committee to rework.
The disciplinary committee will now look into their case.
