Whether she is amazing or not, whether she is a mother-in-law everyone should have or not, there are certain secrets that must be kept from her.

There are certain equations that must not be messed up with. These are delicate relationships that can go awry if not dealt with carefully.

To begin with, make sure you do not reveal these 6 secrets besides keeping mum about your finances.

1. She is a bad cook

All moms like to believe that they are good cooks. So in case your mother-in-law’s cooking is not to your taste, let it be. Too dry, a little burnt, inedible… keep your emotions to yourself. You will be hurting her feelings if you tell her. Look for polite ways to get your message across.

2. Her pieces of advice aren’t useful for you

All mothers have a habit of giving advice to the younger generation. They most of the time think it is good advice and they are good sometimes. But if you think it is cringeworthy or even roll your eyes, stop that. Do not tell her it is bad. Listen to her and nod in a genuine way, do what you think is right. Don’t hurt her or invite unnecessary arguments.

3. She annoys you

It is normal if you feel your mother-in-law is annoying. We all come from different backgrounds. You could be like water and oil too. But whatever it is, you should not be upfront or vocal about it because it hurts. Also remember, she is your partner’s mom! So look at ways to dodge certain situations.

4. You love her company more than your mom’s

This is another extreme. Some people love spending time with their mother-in-laws so much that they do not miss their moms in those moments. However, keep this a secret. It is beautiful that you enjoy it with her but by saying it out loud, the words will reach your own mother and ruin your relationship with her.

5. You detest some family heirlooms

Every family has at least one object which is passed on from generation to generation, becoming a family heirloom. But it is not necessary that you like it. It is okay, you do not have to but keep it to yourself. This piece of knowledge can break hearts in your in-law’s household. Some elephants in the room are best left unaddressed.

6. Your bad sex life

Sharing is caring but oversharing is stupidity and you will know why. There are people who get carried away and volunteer too much information and that eventually leads to awkwardness, misunderstandings and even violation of privacy if you have shared a secret. Bad sex life is not what she wants to hear from you. Yes you have some issue which is making you uncomfortable and you do not know who else to go to because only a mother can help there, then do it. First talk to your partner about the sex life issues and then only rethink about involving someone else.
