on

On July 19th, 2020, Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa announced that it would be producing returnable 2-litre plastic bottles to more areas of the country after they had a successful pilot in the Eastern Cape last year.

Coca-Cola further explained that for each bottle a consumer returns, they receive a R9 deposit.

This actually means if a bottle costs R20, a consumer will eventually pay R11 only.

Velaphi Ratshefola; who is currently the Managing Director of Amalgamated Beverage Industries (ABI), the soft drinks division of South African Breweries Limited (SAB) and one of the largest bottler producers and distributors of The Coca-Cola company brands in the southern hemisphere said:

“The initiative was a dual purpose of making the product affordable to the customer and also making a positive impact on the environment.”

He further stated that the project has now launched in Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the Northern parts of Gauteng.
