Nine arrested in N2 roadblock with illicit cigarettes

Nine suspects possessing cigarettes and dagga has been arrested by the police after a successful road block at KwaZulu-Natal.

The police who were conducting a roadblock in KwaMbonambi in northern KwaZulu-Natal were able to arrest nine suspects after finding them with prohibited items including cigarettes and dagga.


During the roadblock on the N2 on Friday, the police stopped two minibus taxis and searched the vehicle and the occupants.

They arrested two men aged 26 and 41 for allegedly possessing illicit cigarettes. Police found both suspects with a number of cartons of counterfeit cigarettes.

They also searched a bus and found two bags of dagga. A 30-year-old man was arrested for being found with dagga.

Three passenger vehicles were also pulled over and six men were arrested after the police found cartons of illicit cigarettes and alcohol in their vehicles. These men were aged between 25 and 53 years old.

The arrested suspects were all detained and will appear at the Empangeni magistrate’s court on Monday.

This is not the first time the police will make such arrest, several suspects have been arrested for flouting the regulation on Alcohol ban.
