Acting Health MEC, Jacob Mamabolo, who just started his new role a week ago visited the site on Sunday evening and confirmed that a criminal case had been opened.
The acting Health MEC, Mamabolo replaced Bandile Masuku after he was placed on a special leave pending the PPE irregularities scandal’s investigation.
The PPE scandals hit Guateng hard and the recent discovery of PPE in the river raised further red flags.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura expressed his disappointment by explaining that Gauteng was the epic centre of the virus in South Africa and still facing corrupt practices even at the period of this pandemic.
He was also disappointed in Masuki’s involvement in the scandal.
“I must say that I am disappointed, at this point. I am really, really disappointed to have an MEC, who has been leading from the front very well, facing allegations that I can’t ignore.”
