KZN health department probes death in hospital parking lot

on

The KZN health department is investigating the death of a man at the Northdale hospital in Pietermaritzburg.

He was apparently moved to what is called a ‘fever ward’ set up in a tent on the hospital parking lot.

The department expects a report on Tuesday.

A video of the facility went viral on social media.

The KZN Health Department’s Sandile Tshabalala said the department is aware of the situation.

“Because of COVID, what we have done in our institutions was to come up with temporary structures. These temporary structures we want to use to try to triage patients before they come in to ensure the social distancing that is supposed to be there between patients — people who are sick from other things and people who have got COVID.”

Tshabalala said the department is looking into the details of the man’s death.
