KZN Police: ‘Don’t walk alone’ in Umthwalume

Fear has taken the grip on the minds of the community members after gruesome discoveries of the decomposed bodies of five women over the past six months

Police should resume search and rescue operations in the surroundings of uMthwalume area on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast on Thursday.


The resumption of search by the police is due to the discovery of a fifth woman’s decomposed body at a local farm.

It’s believed that she sustained injuries before she was murdered.

Fear has taken the grip on the minds of the community members after gruesome discoveries of the decomposed bodies of five women over the past six months.

The police had an assumption that it could be a serial killer on rogue in the area and probably he also wants to draw the attention of police to the area.

Thembeka Mbhele from KZN police has called on community members to exercise caution.

She said:

They must stay calm and work with the police. And my advice to them is that they must try not walking alone and being lured by strangers. The police are doing their level best; it’s murder and inquest cases that we are investigating.”

Mbhele concluded that a specialised team has been mobilised to investigate the murders.
