Two men are expected in court for the killings this morning
A call for an urgent briefing in Durban have been made by the police this morning. The call was made in order to discuss developments in the investigation into the killings of five women in uMthwalume.
A report mentioned that one of the suspects arrested for the murders was found hanging in the police cells this morning.
The two suspects were arrested on Friday in connection to the gruesome murder of the women and dumping their bodies in a sugarcane field and a nearby bush between April and August.
The two men were expected to show forth in court on Monday morning, after their arrests last week.
The commission for gender equality said it is hoping to see justice for the families soon.
Spokesperson Javu Baloyi said in a statement:
“We disheartened by these discoveries and we feel that this cannot go on any longer as it is. We hope that the two that have been arrested, that one of them is the actual person who has been killing these women since April. We are calling upon the communities of uMthwalume to work closely with the police.”
