A business at Sonskyn Melkery in Middelvlei, was robbed and a suspect was shot dead by the son of the business owner.
The incident happened around 11am on Tuesday, 18, August.
According to Randfontein Police spokesperson, Sergeant Carmen Hendricks, three unidentified men walked into the shop and disguised as customers.
They approached the woman in the shop and told her they were interested in dairy products after which, they ransacked her shop.
They took some undisclosed amount of money and fled with two firearms.
When the woman’s son noticed what happened, he started running after them.
“The woman’s son chased after the robbers, and when one of them shot at him, he returned fire and shot one of the suspected robbers. Paramedics later declared him dead,” Hendricks said.
They dropped the stolen firearms a few metres away from the scene.
However, the police together with EPR Security was able to arrest a suspect and seized a firearm found with him.
“The injured victim was taken to hospital and the arrested suspect will appear in the Randfontein Magistrate’s Court soon” Hendricks said.
The Randfontein detectives are still searching for the other suspect and urge the community to relay any information concerning the suspect to the police .
