South African Airways (SAA) have granted the approval of over 3,000 employees for the voluntary severance packages.

Following the approval of the business rescue process that happened last month, the company counts this as part of winding down of the state-owned property.

SAA is laying off over 3,700 employees in view of their restructuring process.

About 3,142 SAA employees did an application for the voluntary severance packages.

These employees include:

  • 1,744 ground staff,
  • 978 cabin crew,
  • 184 pilots,
  • 135 specialists, and
  • 101 members of management.

Upon their approval, it interprets that they will receive:

  • a 13th cheque,
  • one week’s severance pay,
  • a one-month notice period,
  • and leave paid out.

The new implemented SAA would be in need of more than R10 billion to soar in the sky.
